The State Bank of India has opened a floating ATM on a houseboat at Srinagar’s Dal Lake for the convenience of tourists and locals. The installation has now become an added attraction to the popular tourist destination.
As announced on the bank’s Twitter handle, the ATM, inaugurated by SBI Chairman Dinesh Kumar Khara, will address the long-standing cash needs of the area.
“SBI opened an ATM on a Houseboat at #DalLake, Srinagar for the convenience of locals & tourists. It was inaugurated by the Chairman, SBI, on 16th August. The #FloatingATM in the popular Dal Lake fulfills a long-standing need & will be an added attraction to the charm of Srinagar,” SBI tweeted on August 19, along with pictures of Khara unveiling the machine.
However, this isn’t the first floating ATM from SBI. The bank had launched its first floating cash dispenser in Kerala in the year 2004. It was installed on a Jhankar yacht owned by the Kerala Shipping and Inland Navigation Corporation (KSINC).
The ATM was commissioned by the then Deputy Managing Director of Mumbai Corporate Center Ashok K and launched by Kinney. It operated between the Ernakulam and Vaypeyan regions.
