SC verdict on Telangana MLC appointments a blow to BJP, Congress: KTR

BRS leader K T Rama Rao welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision to cancel two MLC appointments under the Governor’s quota, calling it a blow to BJP and Congress. He accused both parties of misusing constitutional institutions and undermining democracy

Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Wednesday termed the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down the appointments of Prof M Kodandaram and Amer Ali Khan as MLCs under the Governor’s quota a slap in the face to both the BJP and the Congress. He alleged that both parties misused constitutional institutions and mocked democracy.

In a statement, Rama Rao criticised the then Governor for rejecting the BRS government’s nominees Dasoju Sravan and Kurra Satyanarayana, both from weaker sections, and instead recommending other names. He accused the Modi government of trying to control and obstruct the K Chandrashekhar Rao-led government by misusing the Governor’s office.


He also attacked Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for allegedly displaying an anti-BC stance by recommending two new names while the BRS proposals were pending before the court. “The Supreme Court has made it clear that the actions of BJP and Congress were unconstitutional. Their double standards stand exposed,” he said.

Commending the judiciary, Rama Rao said the verdict revealed how political parties trample democratic values and constitutional institutions for power. “On behalf of the BRS, we bow our heads and salute the judiciary for protecting constitutional principles,” he added.
