SCB elevated corridor pillar works near completion

Pillar construction on the Paradise Circle–Suchitra Junction stretch of the SCB Elevated Corridor is nearing completion, while girder work continues. However, tunnel excavation beneath Begumpet Airport remains delayed due to pending Airports Authority of India land clearance, leaving the project's next phase uncertain.

Hyderabad: Though the pillar works on the Paradise Circle–Suchitra Junction stretch under the SCB Elevated Corridor are nearing completion, there is still no clarity on when the tunnel works would begin.

According to the officials, the works on pillars on the Paradise Circle–Suchitra Junction stretch have progressed, with construction of 20 pillars taken up from Balamrai junction (near Paradise Circle) up to the Babu Jagjivan Ram statue (rear side of the Begumpet Airport). They said all the pillars were close to completion.

The road widening from Paradise Circle to the SCB CEO bungalow was completed on this stretch, and a compound wall was also built. A senior HMDA engineer told ‘Telangana Today’ that, in another couple of months, the balance work of the pillars would be completed.

Work of precast concrete segments (girders) to be installed on pillars of the elevated corridor continued at a brisk pace on site. Of the 20 girders planned, half a dozen are completed so far, while work on the remaining girders is in progress.

The HMDA built a compound wall by removing greenery on the premises of the SCB chief executive officer’s century-old bungalow near Balamrai junction. The road from Gymkhana Ground to Tiwoli junction was also widened, and a compound wall was built. For the works, the traffic on the stretch was diverted through alternate roads for the past year.

Airport land for under tunnel is unclear

Meanwhile, the HMDA engineer said earth excavation works for the proposed tunnel from under the Begumpet Airport would start once pillars are completed. There had been an inordinate delay in securing the Airport Authority of India (AAI)’s nod for land clearance.

Uncertainty on the key work for the proposed tunnel on the Begumpet Airport land (runway), planned as part of the elevated corridor, continued even after the Telangana government began efforts to acquire the necessary airport land nearly two years ago.
