Hyderabad: Contract sanitation workers engaged in garbage clearance in the military sub-areas under the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) staged a protest in Secunderabad Cantonment on Wednesday over non-payment of salaries, with the delay allegedly attributed to the negligence of the contractor.

The protesters participated in the agitation demanding immediate payment of salaries to military sub-area contract workers. The workers said that under the Contract Labour Act, wages are to be paid by the 7th of every month, but the contractor agency, Singh Solutions, has been consistently delaying payments. They alleged that the contractor had not paid salaries for April.

The workers urged Cantonment Board officials to take immediate action against the contractor and issue orders to ensure that monthly salaries are paid by the 7th, warning that otherwise they would file a complaint with the Labour Commissioner.

Later, the workers submitted a representation to the Chief Executive Officer of SCB, Arvind Kumar Dwivedi, and complained that the contractor was not properly paying monthly salaries and PF.
