Hyderabad: Former Indian football captain Victor Amalraj has urged the Secunderabad Cantonment to upgrade the Trimulgherry ground in Secunderabad.
Amalraj and two other members of the Shastri Soccer Club — A Jesuraj (secretary of SSC) M Mohan (vice president of SSC) met Ajit Reddy, the CEO of Secunderabad Cantonment, here on Friday and apprised about the ground realities.
Giving the history of the ground that produced Olympians like K.P. Dhanraj, P. Thangaraj, T. Balaram and D. Kannan and international players such as Janakiram, John Victor, and junior internationals and state players, Amalraj asked Reddy to visit the ground.
Amalraj also sought help from the Cantonment in conducting the late Tony memorial football tournament at the Trimulgherry village ground.
Trimulgherry village has three teams affiliated to the Telangana Football Association. They are Sachdev Sports Club, (A Division), Shastri Soccer club (B Division), Susai Seniors Soccer club (C Division). “There are approximately 60 boys of young age who are struggling to find a place for practice at the Trimulgherry village ground,’’ he said.
