Kothagudem: JD Foundation organised a seminar on ‘menstrual hygiene and environmental protection’ for degree students at Bhadrachalam in the district on Thursday.
BC Welfare Hostel warden Aparna and JD Foundation member Vemuri Hansi explained to the students about the personal hygiene practices adolescent girls should follow. The students were made aware of the significance of biodegradable sanitary napkins.
Biodegradable napkins made from natural material and without the use of harmful chemicals would help the girls maintain good health and protect the environment, they explained. On the occasion, biodegradable napkins were distributed free of cost to around 20 students.
Aparna thanked the foundation for its support to the hostel. The foundation convener K Murali Mohan Kumar informed that the sanitary napkins were provided by Hyderabad-based NGOs ‘Satyam A Team’ and ‘Extra Mile’ representatives Manasa and Naga Mohan.
Giving priority to girl education the foundation has been making efforts to help girls from poor families continue their education. The foundation spent Rs 15, 000 to donate smartphones to two students, NS Sudharani and G Nagalaxmi to help them attend online classes, he said.
Financial assistance was extended to a state ranker in intermediate (vocational), M Ganga Bhavani to continue her studies with support from NV Lakshmi Foundation, which provided funds for her college fees, books, new clothes and a smartphone to attend online classes, he said.
The event was attended by the foundation members Vemuri Pawan Kumar, Kadali Nagraj, Yusuf Mia and others.
