Peddapalli: Commissioner of Police M Srinivasulu advised senior citizens to become aware of the present trends in crime and not to reveal their credit/debit cards numbers, passwords, OTPs and other personal details to unknown persons.
Participating in a cybercrime awareness programme for senior citizens held at NTPC millennium hall, Godavarikhani on Wednesday, he said a majority of victims cheated by cyber criminals in the recent past were retired employees. Cybercriminals were targeting senior citizens since the latter would not have awareness about crime being done through the internet. Moreover, possible availability of money in their bank accounts was also the main reason for cybercrooks targeting senior citizens.
Criminals were cheating them by using different methods such as stock markets, home loans, insurance, work from home and other methods. So, senior citizens should be aware about cybercrimes and not reveal personal information to unknown persons. Asking them to be alert about WhatsApp video calls, the CP advised them to approach the police by dialing 1930.
They should believe the people who promise free gifts, gifts and medicines at lower price, he said.
