Hyderabad: Senior Maoist leader Pasunuri Narahari alias Santosh reportedly surrendered before the Telangana Police along with his wife, marking a significant development in the ongoing anti-Maoist operations. Narahari carried a reward of Rs 20 lakh on his head.
According to police sources, Narahari, a native of Somidi village in Kazipet mandal of Hanamkonda district, had been underground for nearly three decades. Records indicate that he went into hiding in 1996 and remained active in the Maoist movement for almost four decades after joining the outfit in his teenage years.
Narahari was influenced during his college days by former People’s War leaders Puli Anjaiah and Kranti Ranadev, which led him to join the extremist movement. Over the years, he played key roles in several major operations and handled responsibilities across multiple wings of the banned organisation.
At the time of his surrender, the 57-year-old was reportedly serving in a key technical role in the East Regional Bureau of the Maoist organisation in Jharkhand.
Sources in the Intelligence Department said the couple decided to surrender as security forces intensified combing operations in the Saranda Forest in search of senior Politburo member Misir Besra.
The search for top Maoist leaders, including Muppala Lakshmana Rao and Misir Besra, is still underway.
