Seven arrested for poaching tiger in Asifabad

Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Seven persons were arrested by foresters on charges of poaching, possessing a tiger hide in Kagaznagar on Sunday. The hide, lower jaw and some bones of the big cat were recovered from them.
District Forest Officer S Shantaram, in a statement, said that the accused persons were Kotnaka Dev Rao, Godugu Avinash, Mesram Manku, Mesram Deepak, Mesram Chandrakanth, Mesram Eshwer, Mesram Laxman, all natives of Wadgaon village in Indervelli mandal of Adilabad district.
Dev Rao and Avinash were apprehended by a special team of foresters led by Adilabad District Forest Officer Rajasekhar in Kagaznagar on Saturday evening, following a tip.
Dev Rao and Avinash confessed that they brought the hide from Manku, Deepak, Chandrakanth, Eshwar and Laxman of Wadgaon village. They revealed that a tiger was electrocuted when it came into contact with a snare set by one Pendur Devrao of Wadgaon for preventing entry of wild boars into his paddy crop last year.
During the raids held by a team of foresters, the lower jar and bones were found at Penduru Mukund Rao’s house. During the investigations, it was also revealed that the tiger was skinned by Athram Krishna of the same village. The accused were brought to Kagaznagar town for further investigations. Then they would be produced before a court, the note read.
It is learnt that the big cat migrated from Maharashtra was accidentally electrocuted.
Meanwhile, mild tension prevailed when the forest authorities detained the tribals at Wadgaon village in Indervelli mandal. Locals and members of tribal organisations tried to barge into the office of the forest department and to prevent the foresters from apprehending the accused. They staged a rasta-roko demanding release of the tribals.
