Seven from Telangana conferred with Padma Shri awards
Seven individuals from Telangana have been named for the Padma Shri awards this year, recognising contributions in science, medicine, engineering, research, and the arts.

Hyderabad: For their contribution in the fields of science, arts, medicine, co-operative movement, research and engineering, seven persons from Telangana have been named for this year’s Padma Shri awards.
They include distinguished scientist Chandramouli Gaddamanugu, who served as former Project Director at Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), where he dedicated over three decades to the development of the Akash missile system.
Senior scientist Krishnamurty Balasubramanian (Science and Engineering) is known for his contribution in the field of advanced materials and engineering components and has led the Nonferrous Materials Technology Development Centre (NFTDC) in Hyderabad.
Renowned oncologist Dr Palkonda Vijay Anand Reddy (Medicine) also has been named for this year’s Padma Shri. Currently, he is serving as Director and senior oncologist at Apollo Cancer Centre, Jubilee Hills.
Another doctor, Dr GV Rao, who is currently Director and Chief of Surgical Gastroenterology, GI Oncology and Minimally Invasive surgery at AIG Hospitals, Hyderabad also figures in the list.
Dr Kumarasamy Thangaraj (Science and Engineering) is a senior scientist who heads a research group at Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) and well known researcher, reputed for modernising animal husbandry practices in Telangana, Rama Reddy Mamidi have also been named for this year’s Padma Shri honour.
Kuchipudi exponent and a prominent name in the Indian classical dance circuit, Deepika Reddy, has also been conferred with Padma Shri.
Apart from Telangana, four individuals from Andhra Pradesh were also announced for Padma Shri awards. They include Gadde Babu Rajendra Prasad (Art), Garimella Balakrishna Prasad ( Art), Maganti Murali Mohan (Art) and Vempaty Kutumba Sastry for Literature and Education.
