Sangareddy: Seven lakes in the Patancheru assembly constituency will get a facelift as the union government decided to build sewerage treatment plants (SWT) through built operate and transfer (BOT) mode under the Amruth 2.0 scheme. The SWTs will be built with an outlay of Rs 1,100 crore by roping in private players. While the Centre bears 25 per cent of the project expenditure, the State and contractor will have to spend 35 per cent and 40 per cent respectively.

The seven selected lakes were Timmakka Cheruvu, Mella Cheruvu, Usikebavi, Icrisat lake, Gandigudem, Bachugudem and Ameenpur lakes. Patancheru MLA Gudem Mahipal Reddy and HMWSSB officials held a meeting at the MLA camp office to discuss the project. Speaking on the occasion, the MLA said that the project was aimed at keeping the lakes clean. Since the lakes were being polluted with the release of drainage water from nearby colonies, he said that STPs would help them to keep the water bodies clean.
