Seven members of women’s rights organisation held in Mancherial

Mancherial: Seven members of a women’s rights organisation were arrested for allegedly assaulting a woman and damaging her crop in Luxettipet on Tuesday.
Mancherial Assistant Commissioner of Police Akhil Mahajan, in a statement, said that the accused were Kalle Shusheela, Barla Sravanti, Gaddam Rajani, Thatikonda Kavita, Tirisindula Surekha, Yellamelli Anantha Laxmi, and Md Haseena, natives of different parts of Mancherial district and members of a Mahila Mandali (women’s rights organisation).
Nayini Kalavathi, Bolishetti Devender and his brother Rajender of Dandepalli mandal were also booked for their role in the offence. The complainant was Nandurka Suguna, a resident of Nagasamudram village in Dandepalli mandal.
Shusheela, Sravanthi, Rajani, Kavita, Surekha, Anantha Laxmi, and Haseena assaulted Suguna and her sons on August 10. They then abused the woman using filthy language. They were involved in the land dispute between Kalavathi and Suguna under the guise of members of the women’s rights organisation. They reportedly extracted huge sums from Kalavati for settling the issue.
In a similar instance, a senior woman leader was taken into custody for an alleged extortion in Mancherial town. The accused was Pullamma, a resident of Hamaliwada of the district headquarters. Pullamma was booked on the charge of collecting a bribe of Rs 80,000 from Durgam Rajamani of Mancherial town under the pretext of resolving a marital discord.
