Nirmal: Seven millers were booked for allegedly defaulting rice grains worth Rs.107 crore relating to the 2022-23 Vanakalam and Yasangi seasons in Nirmal district.

Civil Supplies officials said cases were registered against the millers under relevant sections of the Revenue Recovery Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita for failing to deliver the rice grains. The millers were allotted paddy under the custom rice milling process, but did not hand over the rice grains so far.

A total of 17 mills out of the total 76 mills located in the district were found to be defaulting on delivering the grains.

They were instructed to deliver the rice grains as per deadlines set by the government from time to time. They did not show stocks of the paddy produce. This was exposed during field inspections carried out by the officials of the civil supplies department recently.

The defaulting mills included Rajarajeshwari, Sai Kripa, Annapurna Agro Industries, Venkateshwara, and Jai Shritha situated in different parts of the district.

Similarly, none of the rice mills did not provide bank guarantee to take part in CMR as instructed by the government recently. People wanted officials to take steps to recover the grains from mills.
