Seven scribes arrested for threatening, extortion in Telangana’s Mancherial
The threatened cattle traders and extorted Rs 15,000 from them by stopping their vehicles at Kallampalli and Vemanapalli villages on different occassions
Mancherial: Seven scribes working with vernacular newspapers were arrested for allegedly indulging in extortion in Neelwai village of Vemanapalli mandal on Sunday.
Neelwai Sub-Inspector Shyam Patel said that Choppadandandi Janardhan of Netitharam newspaper, Masani Ramesh (Bhadradri News), Thagaram Venkatesh (Druva News), and Thunga Ramesh, Thodeti Santosh, Jillapelli Pocham and Dubbala Vishnu, all belonging to Jilla Vani news daily were apprehended for their role in extortion of cattle traders.
The accused scribes belonged to Chennur town and other villages of the district.
The seven allegedly threatened the cattle traders Gade Mahesh, Jakkula Sridhar and Mogili Anil from Godavarikhani and extorted Rs 15,000 from them by stopping their vehicles at Kallampalli and Vemanapalli villages on different occassions under the guise of scribes recently.
The traders lodged a complaint with police. A case was registered. Investigations were taken up.
