As social media has become an integral part of our life and hard to be ignored, it is at least necessary to remain safe while using the public platform.

Hyderabad: In today’s digital age, there are very few individuals who do not have a social media account. From children to elderly everyone are glued to social media leaving lesser scope for safety and privacy. Moreover, having a social media account and marking your digital presence have grown to become a mainstream profession.

As social media has become an integral part of our life and hard to be ignored, it is at least necessary to remain safe while using the public platform.


Just with a mere click, you can fall prey to crimes such as identity theft, blackmail, cyber bullying, or even having to compromise on your personal information.
Here are a few guidelines listed to make sure your are shielded and empowered in this digital age:

1. Keep your Information Private: While opening a social media account, the networks request details regarding your personal information such as address, phone numbers, emails, and birthdays. Make sure you have not disclosed any information that might become a potential threat. Always keep your account private

2. Strong Passwords: It is a common practice to keep our birth dates as our passwords. Do not do that. It is important to have a strong password which is a mix of letters, numbers, and signs

3. Accept Requests only from your Friends: It is common to receive follow requests on your social media account, but make sure you accept requestes only from your friends or acquitences

4. Do not open Unwarranted Links: Be cautious while clicking on links as you may fall prey to a devious crime just by opening a random link sent to you either by your friend or a follower

5. Be Mindful of Sharing Information on Social Media: It is good to be active on social media and share about your life. But make sure you are being mindful about the information your sharing in the public platform. Remember, the internet is permanent.

6. Do not Enable Auto Log in: Ensure that you do not have applications set to auto log in by deault. It is always not recommended to have the option of auto log in on to remain on the safer side

7. Close other Social Media Networks you do not use anymore: If you have an account in other social media platforms that you hardly use anymore, then remember to log out and close the account. Do not risk leaving personal information on platforms you no longer use

The internet has boomed so as the social media in the past decade creating space for newer crimes. It is important to understand the security tools, safety tips, and guidelines in order to remain safe and private while also making your mark in the growing digital age.
