Adilabad: Residents have been facing a severe drinking water crisis due to a lack of supply water through the Mission Bhagiratha scheme at Mamidiguda hamlet under Andhguda village in Indervelli for the last few days.

The residents said they had no option but to trek for 2 kilometres to fetch a few pots of drinking water from a borewell located on a farm. They said that they were forced to rely on the borewell following the lack of water supply through taps of the drinking water scheme.

The women carry the pots on their heads, braving scorching summer conditions daily. Men are transporting the water-filled plastic drums loaded in bullock carts for bathing and cleaning utensils. They stated that the farmer came to their rescue by allowing them to use the water from his borewell.

The residents requested officials to address their challenge at the earliest. They stated that they could not trek the long distance if mercury levels went up shortly. They said that it was a Herculean task to fetch a pot of water from the farm to their homes in the summer.
