Hyderabad: The University of Hyderabad (UoH) professor who was arrested for allegedly attempting to outrage the modesty of a foreign student was produced before court on Sunday. The court remanded him to 14 day judicial custody.
The professor, Ravi Ranjan, from the Hindi department, had allegedly taken a foreign woman student to his house in his car on pretext of providing some study material and attempted to outrage her modesty. When the victim resisted, the professor brought her back and dropped at the campus.
The victim approached the police who booked a case under Section 354 and 354A of IPC and arrested Ravi Ranjan on Saturday night. He was produced before court and remanded on Sunday.
The police will seek his custody to question him further in connection with the case. The police are collecting the call details and details of other conversations that took place between the victim and the professor. The mobile phone of the professor was seized by the police.
“All possible evidences are being collected to make it a water tight case. A dedicated special team is working on the case under the supervision of a higher official,” said DCP (Madhapur) K Shilpavalli.
