Shameful for Congress to blame BRS for food poisoning incidents, says Jagadish Reddy

"Congress leaders should be ashamed to blame BRS for repeated incidents of food poisoning across the State. They are behaving as if the BRS is in power and they are in opposition, by coming up weird conspiracy theories to deflect the blame," he said, adding that such blaming would only project the Congress rule in a poor light.

Hyderabad: BRS leaders on Monday criticised Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for the gross negligence of government schools especially the residential welfare institutions. Former Minister and Suryapet MLA G Jagadish Reddy rubbished the claims of Congress leaders holding the BRS responsible for the food poisoning cases, asking who was in power – the Congress or BRS.

“Congress leaders should be ashamed to blame BRS for repeated incidents of food poisoning across the State. They are behaving as if the BRS is in power and they are in opposition, by coming up weird conspiracy theories to deflect the blame,” he said, adding that such blaming would only project the Congress rule in a poor light.

Addressing the media persons at Telangana Bhavan on Monday, Jagadish Reddy said the Congress government was obstructing the efforts of the BRS committee to study the deteriorating conditions in Gurukuls and make recommendations to improve their condition. The committee led by the party leader RS Praveen Kumar was formed to assess the situation in Gurukuls and suggest reforms.

“But, the government is using police force to suppress dissent, detain student leaders and restrict us from visiting the government educational institutions. What is the issue with our party leaders studying Gurukul problems? Parents are now worried about their children’s future in these institutions,” he said.

The former Minister found fault with the Congress government over the absence of a dedicated Education Minister, pointing out that the Chief Minister, who held the portfolio, lacked the time and intent to address challenges faced by students. He suggested that the Education department should be either assigned to one of the existing Ministers or those with exposure in the education sector including Prof M Kodandaram.

Jagadish Reddy also accused the Revanth Reddy administration of failing to replicate the success achieved during the K Chandrashekhar Rao tenure, when Gurukul students scaled Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Everest. He said the current Congress government was prioritising political interests over public welfare, neglecting critical issues such as farmer loan waivers, supply of nutritious food to school children under Mid-Day Meals scheme, and transparency in resource allocation.

“Revanth Reddy’s government has been exposed within a year as a regime incapable of delivering for the people,” he added.
