Hyderabad: The Siasat Daily, which has been burying unclaimed bodies and those of the less privileged for the last 18 years, is conducting the last rites of 11 bodies on a single day on Saturday.
The Hyderabad-based daily, which realized that unclaimed Muslim bodies were being burned, had requested the then City Police Commissioner to handover such unclaimed Muslim bodies, and took upon itself to bury those bodies. The costs were borne by the daily and some of its philanthropist readers.
To recognize the efforts of the donors and to encourage others to join the cause, Siasat is organizing the Namaz-E-Janaza (last rites) of 11 bodies on a single day on Saturday after Zohar prayers at the Jama Masjid Darul Shifa behind the Salar Jung Museum.
A note from the paper said this was in recognition of the drive that made possible burials of over 5,020 unclaimed bodies in the last 18 years.
