Siddipet: BRS stages protests against unveiling of Rajiv Gandhi statue
The BRS leaders said Rajiv Gandhi did nothing for the cause of Telangana, but the Congress government had gone ahead with installation of the statue despite strong opposition from all quarters.
Siddipet: BRS leaders and workers staged a protest at the martyrs memorial at Rangadhampally junction in Siddipet protesting against the unveiling of the statue of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at the Secretariat on Monday.
The BRS leaders said Rajiv Gandhi did nothing for the cause of Telangana, but the Congress government had gone ahead with installation of the statue despite strong opposition from all quarters.
Wearing black badges, the BRS leaders raised slogans of Rajiv Gandhi Vaddu-Telangana Talli Muddu (No to Rajiv Gandhi-Yes to Telangana Talli). Speaking on the occasion, BRS leader Merugu Mahesh said the government could have installed statues of Bhagyareddy Varma, Suravaram Prathap Reddy, Kaloji Narayana Rao, Chakali Ailaamma, Prof Jayashankar, Gaddar or any other Telangana stalwart.
Former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao‘s statue could also be installed, he said, vowing to remove the statue once the BRS returned to power.
