Siddipet: Indiscriminate burning of paddy stubble resulted in the death of another farmer in Mirudoddi mandal headquarters on Thursday.
The farmer Maddela Mallaiah (60) set fire to the stubble and within no time, flames surrounded him giving no scope for escape. Mallaiah died on the spot as he sustained serious burn injuries. It was the second such death reported in the district during the summer.
Uppala Yellaiah (65), a resident of Yenagurthy, died on May 30. Even though officials and social activists have been advising against stubble burning as it leads to soil degradation, farmers continue to resort to the practice. The police have registered a case.
