Siddipet: Peddavagu, a key stream in Siddipet district, is in spate following heavy rains in its catchment areas in Maddur, Cheriyal and Gajwel mandals of the district. Several check dams built across the stream, a tributary of Godavari, were overflowing from Thursday morning.

The stream is also known as Moyatummeda Vagu in Husnabad and Koheda Mandals.

Since the stream was in full flow, water was flowing over Basavapur bridge between Husnabad and Siddipet, forcing officials to suspend all vehicular movement on this busy road. The road connects Siddipet with Warangal.

Husnabad RDO P Jayachandra Reddy, who visited the Basavapur bridge, said Shanigaram and Singaraya projects in Koheda were expected to be filled to the brim in the next few hours.  The RDO alerted people not to visit the stream downstream of these two projects as the irrigation authorities may release water any time. Gagillapur, Thotapally and Devakkapally in Bejjanki Mandal and Tangallapally, Ramachandrapur, Vinjapally and Varikole  in Koheda mandals were put on high alert.

With Siddipet district receiving average rainfall of 45mm in the past 24 hours aending 8.30 am on Thursday, several tanks and other streams were also overflowing.

Dhoolmitta mandal received 95mm rainfall while Nagnanur and Markook received 90mm and 87mm respectively during the period. Normal life was thrown out of gear in several places due to the incessant rains in the past couple of days.
