Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Thursday pulled up the State over the sluggish investigation into the Sigachi Industries explosion of June 30, 2025, which claimed 54 lives, noting that the probe was still ‘languishing’ despite examination of 237 witnesses.
A Bench of Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice GM Mohiuddin was hearing a batch of petitions concerning the incident.
The Court had earlier directed the State to report on the progress of the investigation and the compensation paid to the families of the deceased, the injured, and missing workers. The State filed a counter with annexures showing the compensation details.
However, when it came to the status of the investigation, the Court noted that Paragraph 15 of the affidavit merely stated that 237 witnesses had been examined and about 15 more remained. It did not indicate whether the police had formed any opinion on the offences made out or on the persons responsible.
The Bench also recorded that the list of witnesses, though handed to the Court separately, showed that families of victims and some eyewitnesses had been examined, but no officials of regulatory bodies or employees of Sigachi Industries had been questioned so far.
Additional Advocate General T. Rajinikanth Reddy submitted that the expert committee report was given to the investigating team only recently and that further action would follow.
Dissatisfied with the State’s response, the Court directed the Investigating Officer, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, to appear in person on the next date along with the case diary and all relevant records. Counsel for Sigachi Industries sought two weeks to file the company’s response, which the Court granted.
The matter will next be heard on December 9 at 2:15 pm.
