Sigachi blast: TPJAC presses for compensation, announces June 30 round table

The Telangana People's Joint Action Committee (TPJAC), which has been supporting Sigachi blast victims for the past year, said it has pursued compensation, legal action and rehabilitation efforts. It will hold a round-table meeting on June 30 to press for justice.

Sangareddy: Telangana People’s Joint Action Committee (TPJAC) has been fighting on behalf of Sigachi Industry blast victims since last one year. Peoples for Scientists, which was part of TPJAC, has filed a public interest litigation immediately after the blast, seeking compensation for the victims and action against the management for lack of safety measures and officials for issuing no objection certificates to industry without carrying proper inspections.

A board hanged on Sigachi Industry entrance gate now is attracting visitors as biggest industrial blast in Telangana claimed 54 lives, left injured many.


The TPJAC led by Y Ashok Kumar, senior scientist Kalapala Babu Rao, and many other experts visited the blast site and interacted with kin of the victims. Later, they accompanied the kin to every office they walked into seeking the release of compensation. The team has guided the eight deceased, whose bodies were not traced from the blast site, in getting the death certificates and benefits. They stayed in contact with the kin, who were mostly from migrants, by creating a WhatsApp group.

The TPJAC team along with the kin presented representations at Sangareddy collectorate six times during the Monday grievances. The TPJAC staged a dharna at Sangareddy collectorate to highlight the struggles of victims. They also submitted a representation during Prajavani at Praja Bhavan in Hyderabad.

Sigachi blast

Current status of Sigachi Industries Limited, Pashamylaram, Sangareddy district. The industry remained inoperative for last one year after blast on June 30.

The team visited the deputy commissioner of labour office multiple times, and labour office in Hyderabad, seeking release of compensation. However, the team accused the officials of acting favourably to Sigachi management, ignoring the struggles of kin blast victims. The TPJAC is going to hold a round table meeting on June 30 at Sundaraiah Vignana Kendram where the experts and kin of victims will raise their voices on the issue.
