Hyderabad: There are very few games one can buy a new console for Horizon: Forbidden West was pitched as one of them. A game expected to showcase the PS5’s computing prowess and tap into its blistering fast SSD in order to render breath-taking vistas, Forbidden West is a great example of the kind of games that current gen technology can deliver.
Your first 10 minutes into Forbidden West will make you experience all of the new tech’s abilities and so much more as you can’t help but be submerged in Aloy’s new pursuits. If you are playing it on last generation’s PS4, the game isn’t too shabby there too.
Forbidden West expands Aloy’s journey to new areas as she tries to fight planetary devastation and free the world of an all-pervasive blight. As she travels to new places, she encounters newer machines, enemies, and allies and expands her understanding of the various systems that govern the planet.

She increases her understanding of the complex AI that govern her planet while at the same time prevents rebellions and cases of worker exploitation as the saviour of a world who straddles both the game’s ancient machinic past and its current medieval present.
Forbidden West throws everything it can to test its saviour’s resolve and Aloy endures it all with style. In terms of gameplay, Forbidden West’s RPG elements are wonderfully revamped and its crafting system now extends to weapons too. There is also a wonderful new cooking and food system that’s inspired from Horizon’s closest competitor Breath of the Wild; where Aloy can eat specific dishes to acquire boosts and resistances before facing certain kinds of enemies.
On higher difficulties, the combat’s a lot more complex and a stealthy approach while slow and methodical has great benefits. Be prepared to die here from even low ranked machines as the AI is a lot better this time around, even Burrowers (the Watcher equivalent from Zero Dawn) can pack quite a punch.
As a game, Forbidden West is wonderfully made, the story is top-notch, and the attention to detail infinitesimal. The first ten hours allows you not only to reacquaint yourself with the world but also allows returning players to find closure with their favourite characters. Time flies as you play Forbidden West.
An iconic journey the second time around, the sequel is a significant upgrade on Zero Dawn, not many games can say so. Play it on the PS5 if you can, this game makes the purchase worth it.
My pick for Game of the Year for 2022, Forbidden West is the best game you will play this February and that’s saying something.
