Peddapalli: It was a joyful and emotional day for the 1990–91 SSC batch of Singareni Collieries High School, Sector-III, 8 Incline Colony, as former classmates reunited at their alma mater on Sunday after a gap of 34 years.
The atmosphere was filled with laughter, nostalgia and warm embraces as the alumni met on the school premises, reminiscing about childhood memories and reliving their school days. Many found it difficult to recognise each other at first, with the passage of time bringing grey hair, weight gain, and receding hairlines. The women, dressed in colourful sarees and jewellery, added a festive flair to the occasion.
They toured the familiar verandas and classrooms, teasing each other and recalling the moments of fun and discipline from their school years. As selfies were being clicked and memories shared, an unexpected emotional moment silenced the crowd when a wheelchair rolled into the school veranda.
Tears welled up in the eyes of several participants upon seeing their classmate Ramchander, who had lost both legs due to complications from Covid. Accompanied by his wife, daughter and son, Ramchander expressed heartfelt gratitude to his friends for their support. He gave special thanks to NRI classmate Raghuveer Reddy, who promised to take care of his son’s education.
Later, the group gathered at the NCOA Club near the school to share stories of the hardships and joys they had experienced over the decades. Laughter erupted when Sumanth recounted how Shankar once mistook their Telugu teacher Subramanyam for a student and casually placed his hand on his shoulder at the school gate.
Social studies teacher Gopal Reddy also added to the cheer with old classroom anecdotes. Biology teacher Manjari also shared fond memories with the students, making the gathering even more memorable.
All the participants thanked Raghuveer Reddy for successfully organising the reunion with the help of local classmates including Ramana Reddy, Sumanth Raju, Hemanth and others.
