Peddapalli: Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), which is foraying into new businesses, is also focusing on the welfare of its employees. As part of these efforts, the company plans to develop the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Godavarikhani with modern sports facilities.

According to officials, the development works will include a synthetic track, a green grass football court, and other amenities at an estimated cost of Rs 7.20 crore. Proposals have been sent to the corporate office, and work will commence after receiving approval from higher authorities.

The plan includes an eight-lane, 400-metre synthetic track encircling the football ground. Singareni officials, along with synthetic track experts, have already inspected the stadium site.

Once the development works are completed, employees and their children are expected to benefit significantly. Many workers currently use the stadium for walking and exercise, while their children practise there to prepare for police and armed forces recruitment tests.

Meanwhile, SCCL is also planning to develop a separate ground on a 20-acre site along the banks of the Godavari river, between the Sammakka-Sarakka Jatara site and the intake well on the outskirts of Godavarikhani.

At present, public meetings and cultural events are held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Since the company has decided to modernise the venue, an alternative site will be arranged for such events. The existing dais at the stadium, used for meetings and other gatherings, has already been dismantled.
