Siddipet: State BJP president N Ramchander Rao on Thursday accused the Congress government in Telangana of misleading people over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Addressing BJP workers during a training session at Mathapally in Siddipet district, Rao said the SIR was a continuous process undertaken by the Election Commission of India (ECI). Stating that successive governments at the Centre had supported the exercise to update and streamline electoral rolls, he alleged that the Congress was portraying the SIR as a conspiracy by the BJP-led Central government.

Accusing the Congress of blaming Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) whenever it loses elections, Rao said the party refrains from making similar allegations in States where it secures a majority of seats.

The BJP State president said the SIR exercise would help ensure that voters are registered in the places where they reside. However, he alleged that the Congress was misleading people by claiming that citizens would lose benefits from the Central and State governments if their names were removed from the voters’ list.

Rao also accused the State government led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of failing to fulfil its promises and cheating various sections of society. He alleged that the government had let down farmers and students by not delivering on its assurances.

Claiming that the BJP was emerging as a strong alternative political force in Telangana, Rao said both the Congress and the BRS were spreading misinformation against the saffron party out of political insecurity.

Medak MP M Raghunandan Rao and other BJP leaders were present.
