Rajanna-Sircilla: Veldi Rekha, a handloom weaver from Sircilla town, has become the first woman to be selected for the prestigious Konda Laxman Bapuji Award for her outstanding craftsmanship in weaving.
Rekha, along with her husband and renowned weaver Hariprasad, created a Rajanna Siri Pattu Peethambaram on handloom, completing the intricate piece in just 45 days. The silk creation spans 48 inches in width and five meters in length.
The Peethambaram features exquisite motifs, including the Kaman (arch) of the Kakatiya dynasty, the ‘Rajanna Kodemokku’ tradition, and a depiction of a woman weaver, symbolising the spirit and skill of Telangana’s weaving community.
The couple’s work has been widely appreciated for blending tradition with artistic finesse, showcasing the rich handloom legacy of Sircilla.
