Karimnagar: BC Welfare and Civil Supplies Minister G Kamalakar said that Sircilla, which was known for weavers suicides, has become a sirulasilla (place of riches) with Bathukamma sarees order. Sircilla weavers used to commit suicide due to lack of employment. However, the situation has changed and weavers are getting regular employment with Bathukamma sarees and other orders placed by the state government.

In the last five years, Rs 5 crore worth sarees were procured from Sircilla weavers, Minister said while distributing Bathukamma sarees to women at Kothapalli and Nagulamalyala on Saturday. Considering himself as a big brother of each family, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao was distributing Bathukamma sarees ensuring the poor women to celebrate festivals with enthusiasm.

Remembering that earlier years, some of the people had burnt sarees, Kamalakar said those people were rejected by the people. “People across the country worship Gods with flowers. However, Telangana is the only State where flowers are worshipped by treating them as Gods”. In united Andhra Pradesh, Andhra leaders were not aware about the greatness of Bathukamma festival. At the same time, local leaders did not bother about the festival. Previous governments had put farmers in the jail when they asked for power supply. Farmers were also lathicharged for asking subsidy seed. They did not think about Kalyanalaxmi and Shadhi Mubharak. However, Chief Minister was implementing various welfare programmes to fulfill the desires of all sections of the society.
