Karimnagar: A large number of people reached the protest site near Ambedkar chowk in Huzurabad, where BRS legislator Padi Kaushik Reddy began a day-long deeksha in protest against the government’s decision to set up a dumping yard (waste to energy plant) near Sirsapalli village.
Despite the hurdles created by the police, the deeksha site attracted thousands of villagers from various villages of Huzurabad mandal to support Kaushik Reddy’s 24-hour deeksha on Tuesday.
Police prevented the organisers from erecting more tents to accommodate the stream of people visiting the site. The police maintained that there was no permission to erect tents on the roadside and removed some tents already erected. As a result, people visiting the place had to brave scorching sun and had to rush to the shadows of trees, while many registered their protest by standing on roads, despite the scorching sun.
Speaking after launching his deeksha, Kaushik Reddy barely managed to control his anger at the police for creating troubles to deeksha being undertaken by various sections during the last 15 days.
He appealed to the government not to disturb the deeksha just to get even with him. Stating that it was not agitation to benefit him personally, the MLA said he was fighting for the future of Huzurabad people.
He declared that there was no question of allowing the government to establish the dumping yard and asserted that he would continue his agitation till the GO sanctioning the dumping yard was rescinded. Construction of the dump yard was possible only after his death, he said.
He pointed out that people living in a radius of 30 km are likely to face health problems if the garbage from Karimnagar and Warangal was dumped at Sirsapalli. Besides Huzurabad, people living in Shankarapatnam, Jammikunta, Ellandakunta, Saidapur, Elkathurthy and Kamalapur mandals would be affected. Agricultural lands, crops and environment would also be affected.
Emphasizing the need to unite all political parties for public cause, he urged the Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar and Malkajgiri MP Eatala Rajender to join the agitation. Senior BRS leader B Vinod Kumar visited deeksha site and extended his support to Kaushik Reddy.
