Kumram Bheem Asifabad: The quick response by Wankidi Sub-Inspector Deekonda Ramesh saved the life of a tribal woman who suffered serious injuries when she accidentally came in contact with a live wire set up by poachers near Tokkiguda, a remote hamlet under Navegaon village in Wankidi mandal.
The Sub-Inspector received a frantic call from a person stating that a woman had died of electrocution and three others were injured when they accidentally touched an electrified fence meant to kill wild animals on the forest fringe of Tokkiguda recently.

The incident occurred when the victims were returning home after catching fish in an irrigation tank on the outskirts of neighbouring Dondra village. Ramesh and Probationary Sub-Inspector P Ramakrishna immediately rushed to Navegaon village and reached the spot after trekking for five km. With the help of locals, they brought the body of Bhuta Neelabai (45) wrapped in a bedsheet. They ensured that the injured Muchineni Rajakka and Mutha Bheem Rao were shifted to Indani village and then to the district headquarters by a jeep about 25 km from Navegaon.
It was Ramesh’s wise decision to shift Rajakka from Asifabad town to a hospital in Hyderabad that saved her life. He arranged a private ambulance spending money from his pocket after failing to get a government ambulance. Rajakka, who lost both her eyes when she fell on the live wire, was initially admitted to Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital and later shifted to Osmania General Hospital.
“Had the Sub-Inspector not hired the ambulance spending Rs 10,000, my wife would have died that night. Additionally, he gave us Rs 2,000 for food and other expenses in Hyderabad. Rajakka’s condition is stable now. We will be indebted to him forever,” Pochaiah, a daily wager told ‘Telangana Today.’
Based on a complaint lodged by Panata Dev Rao, a family member of the victim, a case was registered against Jugunaka Chitru, a farmer of Rahapalli in Maharashtra and Kumram Sonerao, a resident of Dondra village, for laying the electrified fence. Investigations are on.
