Six arrested in Adilabad’s Indervelli after assault and objectionable social media posts trigger communal tension

Police arrested six persons belonging to two groups in Indervelli, Adilabad, following an assault and the circulation of objectionable social media posts. Police urged residents to avoid rumours, verify information and help maintain communal harmony and public order.

Adilabad: Six persons of two groups were arrested on charges of assaulting a person and making objectionable comments on social media platforms triggering communal tensions in Indervelli mandal centre on Friday.

Indervelli SI E Sayanna said that cases were booked against six persons of the two groups and the accused persons were arrested for thrashing a youngster and allegedly creating enmity between two sections by circulating objectionable comments on WhatsApp and Facebook. He cautioned that stern action would be taken against those who spread rumors.

The police urged the public not to trust rumors circulated on social media platforms. They advised people to approach police to dispel doubts. Protecting communal harmony and tranquility of a region was everyone’s responsibility. Cases would be registered against those who disturb law and order of the society.

It was learned that members of a section assaulted a youngster over some petty issue on Tuesday. Members of another section circulated messages on the social media platforms resulting in communal conflict. Further details are awaited.
