Errors galore in Inter first year question paper in Telangana

Hyderabad: A day after printing inconsistency was reported in English paper-II question paper, errors galore, ranging from improper grammar to misprints, were detected in the question papers of the first-year intermediate public examination, conducted on Tuesday.
A total of six such errors were identified in the question papers of Botany, Mathematics and Political Science, causing confusion and concerns among students.
According to an official on exam duty, question No. 13 in Botany Telugu medium, question No.5 in Botany paper – I English medium, question Nos. 32 and 20 in Political Science paper – I English and Telugu mediums respectively, and questions Nos. 4 and 9 in Mathematics paper-IA Telugu medium had errors.
The errors ranged from grammatical to printing, which were identified by students after they began attempting the questions. In response, the Telangana Board of Intermediate Education identified the mistakes and sent out errata to 1,532 centres where the examination was conducted.
While the examination commenced at 9 am, the Board officials sent out errata to centre chief superintendents and departmental officers at 10.30 am, informing them about the errors and corrections to be made in the question papers.
“There is no loss for students. These are grammatical errors, which students already identified and they knew the answers as well. As soon as we received errata from the Board, we informed the invigilators and got the corrections done. An acknowledgement was also taken from the invigilator concerned,” said an official on exam duty.
The BIE on Monday announced the awarding of four marks for question no. 7 related to the pie chart in English paper – II question paper to all students who attempted it. The Board took this decision as some students raised concerns over the clarity of lines in the question.
Meanwhile, a staggering 23,774 students were absent for the examination. A total of 5,53,423 students registered for the mathematics paper- IA, Botany paper – I and political science paper- I and 5,29,649 were present for the examination. Five malpractice cases with three in Nalgonda, and one each in Karimnagar and Nizamabad were booked.
Observers from the Board were sent to Sangareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nalgonda, Kamareddy, Hyderabad and Medchal districts, TG BIE said, adding that examination was conducted smoothly and peacefully, without any untoward incidents.
