Adilabad: Six members of an inter-State ganja smuggling gang were arrested at Indervelli mandal centre on Thursday. Police seized 5.2 kg of dry ganja, valued at Rs. 1.03 lakh, three motorbikes and six mobile phones from them. One more accused is absconding.
Briefing the media here, Superintendent of Police Akhil Mahajan said Bassi Santosh, Jawade Shankar and Shaik Khaja from Indervelli, Syed Sabir of Jainoor mandal, and Girish Vittal and Shaik Irshad belonging to Ahmednagar in Maharashtra were apprehended for smuggling the contraband substance. Athram Badirao of Puttaloddi is still at large.
During interrogation, Bassi Santosh and others disclosed that Vittal and Irshad played a vital role in gathering contacts of sellers from Maharashtra, while Sabir helped them decide the places and timings to sell the ganja.
Additional SP Kajal Singh, Utnoor Inspector Prasad, SI Sayanna and others were present.
