Jaipur: Six people from Rajasthan were killed and around 20 others injured in a tragic road accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Kasganj district early Monday morning. The victims, all from Karauli district, were travelling in a pickup truck to Soron to perform the ritual immersion of ashes and take a holy dip in the Ganga when their vehicle collided head on with an oncoming truck near Mohanpura in the Kotwali Sadar area, opposite Shiv Inter College.

According to preliminary information, the accident occurred around 4:30 a.m. The impact was severe, killing six passengers instantly. The deceased include three women and three men.

Around 20 others sustained injuries, including seven children, six women and seven men. Nine of them were reported to be in critical condition and were referred to Aligarh after receiving first aid at Kasganj District Hospital. The remaining injured are undergoing treatment at the district hospital.

Residents rushed to the spot after hearing the crash and assisted in rescue efforts. Police and administrative teams also reached the site, rescuing passengers trapped inside the damaged pickup and transporting the injured to hospital by ambulance. Doctors declared six people dead. Police took custody of the bodies, completed inquest proceedings and sent them for post-mortem examinations.

The truck involved in the collision was reportedly carrying animal feed from Shahjahanpur to Jaipur. Preliminary information suggests the truck may have been travelling on the wrong side of the road. Police are also examining whether the pickup driver may have fallen asleep while driving. Both vehicles have been impounded, and an investigation is underway.

Police identified the deceased as Umesh (26), son of Bablu, resident of Revai village, Karauli; Prem (50), wife of Tejram, resident of Nathauli ka Pura, Suroth police station area, Karauli; Nehru (25), son of Ramkhiladi, resident of Nathauli ka Pura, Suroth police station area, Karauli; Reena (32), wife of Karamveer, resident of Salempur Kala, Bharatpur; Anjali (26), wife of Manish, resident of Revai, under Mahua Ibrahimpur police station, Karauli; and Ramjit/Ranjit (33), son of Tejram, resident of Nathauli ka Pura, under Hindaun police station, Karauli.

News of the accident triggered grief and panic among families of the deceased and injured in Rajasthan. Relatives have begun travelling to Kasganj. Police and district administration officials are coordinating medical treatment for the injured and assisting the families of those who died. The investigation into the accident is continuing.
