Hyderabad: On Day 35 of the SLBC tunnel rescue mission, cadaver dog squad identified yet another spot suspected to contain human remains on Friday. This location was found after the removal of layers of debris around the area where the locomotive train got buried under the collapsed roof of the tunnel. The new site is reported to be close to the two previous locations indicated by the dogs last week, which led to the retrieval of the bodies of a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) operator and an engineer.
Rescue teams have intensified excavation efforts at this new site, using mini excavators already deployed within the tunnel. As the digging reaches deeper, rescue personnel are facing increased challenges from the rising volume of water seeping into the tunnel. High-capacity pumps are being used to continuously divert the water into the Krishna River, ensuring that operations proceed smoothly.
The rescue teams comprising approximately 600 personnel were working in shifts. Kerala-trained cadaver dogs played a major role in locating potential areas where trapped individuals may be found. Officials said that these highly skilled animals were deployed into the collapsed tunnel stretch repeatedly during the past 24 hours. (EOM
