SLBC Tunnel Mishap: Efforts on for removal of locomotive engine and cabins from site

Hyderabad: Efforts are being made to remove the locomotive train cabins and engine that have been left trapped under the debris following the tunnel roof collapse inside SLBC tunnel for the last 36 days. The excavation process around the affected area has been completed, allowing rescue personnel to carefully search for survivors and accelerate recovery measures. A coordinated effort involving 12 rescue teams from the Central and State governments is underway, ensuring the availability of essential resources for the teams involved. Advanced technology is being utilized to enhance the speed and efficiency of the rescue efforts, providing necessary facilities to support the operations.
Shiva Shankar Lotheti, special officer overseeing the SLBC tunnel operations, explained that the continuous removal of water seepage, excavation and steel removal processes are being carried out simultaneously. Four excavators and two Bobcat machines are working relentlessly to clear the debris, with conveyor belts transporting the removed materials outside the tunnel. Additionally, ventilation restoration work was also taken up alongside the excavation activities.
