Hyderabad: Snapchat has rolled out a new feature called Home Safe, allowing users to notify a friend or family member automatically when they return home after being out. The feature is designed to offer peace of mind without requiring users to manually send a message.
Whether returning from a date, a concert, or a weekend trip, Home Safe ensures a trusted contact knows you’ve reached home safely. Alerts can only be sent to friends with whom you already share your location, and each alert is a one-time notification that shuts off automatically after sending.
Snapchat emphasized that location sharing remains off by default. No one can see your location or receive a Home Safe alert unless you choose to share it.
To activate the feature, users must first set their home location by tapping their Bitmoji on Snap Map and selecting “My Home.” This location is only visible to the user and friends they share their location with. When heading out, users can open a conversation, tap the Map icon, and select the “Home Safe” button to enable the alert.
Snap Map, already one of the most popular mobile maps with over 400 million monthly users, allows friends and families to stay connected and discover nearby places. Last year, Snapchat introduced location sharing in Family Center, its parental control hub. The new Home Safe feature builds on this by providing a simple way for loved ones to stay informed while users are on the move.
