Hyderabad: A 26-year-old software engineer died by suicide allegedly due to harassment by her husband over additional dowry in Miyapur on Thursday.
The woman, identified as Ishika Yadav from Bihar, and Neeraj Bansal from Madhya Pradesh had been in a relationship for five years after meeting on Facebook. Both were working as software engineers in Hyderabad. With their families’ consent, they got married in Patna on February 10 this year and later moved into an apartment in Miyapur.
Soon after the marriage, Neeraj allegedly began harassing Ishika, demanding more dowry in the form of gold, diamond jewellery and cash. Unable to bear the mental harassment, she died by suicide by hanging in her bedroom.
Family members rushed her to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead. Ishika’s parents have accused her husband of being responsible for her death and lodged a complaint.
The Miyapur Police are investigating.
