Hyderabad: A young woman, who reportedly was shopping for her wedding clothes, died after a concrete portion of the shopping complex collapsed on her at Shanthi Nagar in Kukatpally on Tuesday night.
The incident occurred around 8pm, when the victim, identified as Roja (25), along with her friend Mounika went to a women’s garment shop on the first floor of the multi-storied shopping complex.
According to the police, while the duo was waiting for the designer at the shop, a concrete portion attached to the iron railing on the third floor broke off and fell on Roja. She suffered grievous bleeding injuries on the head and shoulders and fell unconscious. “Her friend along with locals immediately shifted to a nearby private hospital, where the doctors declared her brought dead,” an official said.
Based on a complaint from Roja’s father Shekhar, the Kukatpally police have booked a case and took up investigation. Meanwhile, locals and family members of the victim alleged negligence on part of the complex owner. Though the structure had cracks at many places, including the third floor and several requests were made for those to be repaired, the owner allegedly did not do anything.
Officials said based on further investigation, those responsible may be booked and prosecuted. The body was shifted to the Gandhi Hospital morgue and was later handed over to the family after autopsy on Wednesday afternoon.
