Hyderabad: The South Central Railway (SCR) has achieved record-breaking performance across passenger and freight segments during the financial year 2025-26, General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava announced here on Thursday.

Addressing a press meet at Rail Nilayam, he said the zone carried 286.44 million originating passengers during the year, a significant rise from 263.36 million in 2024-25. The passenger revenue also touched an all-time high of Rs 6,235.37 crore.

On the freight front, SCR transported a record 147.87 million tonnes, surpassing last year’s 144.14 million tonnes. Freight revenue reached a historic Rs 13,575 crore, Srivastava said.

Meanwhile, the zone’s overall gross originating revenue stood at Rs 21,211.92 crore, about 3 per cent higher than the previous year. Ticket checking earnings too peaked at Rs 232.6 crore.

Highlighting infrastructure growth, Srivastava said 194.57 km of new track was added, along with 325 km of electrification. Significant progress was also made in safety systems, including installation of Kavach and automatic signaling beyond targets.

Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, 119 stations are being redeveloped at a cost exceeding Rs 6,000 crore, with several in Telangana already completed or nearing completion.

The General Manager noted that the union Budget allocation for SCR for 2026-27 stands at Rs 13,026 crore, marking an 18.3 per cent increase over the previous year.
