Hyderabad: Telangana tennis players Sowjanya Bhavisetti and Pranjala Yadlapalli will fight it out for the women’s singles title after both of them rallied from a set down to defeat their opponents in semifinal of the ITF Women’s $15,000 tennis tournament at the KSLTA in Bengaluru on Saturday.
Sowjanya toppled tournament favourite Rutuja Bhosale 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 in a closely-fought semifinals. Another Hyderabad girl and fourth seeded Yadlapalli Pranjala defeated upcoming tennis player from Hyderabad Shrivalli Rashmikaa in a tough three-set contest. Having lost the first set 3-6, Pranjala had to stave off a stiff competition in the third set to record 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 victory.
Meanwhile, Sowjanya also reached the women’s doubles final along with Rutuja Bhosale. Sowjanya and Rutuja downed Sai Samhitha Chamarthi and Soha Sadiq 7-5, 6-1. They will take on the pair of Mihika Yadav and Vaidehi Chaudhari.
Results: Semifinal: Pranjala Yadlapalli bt Shrivalli Rashmikaa 3-6, 6-3, 7-5; Sowjanya Bhavisetti bt Rutuja Bhosale 4-6, 6-4, 6-2; Doubles: Sowjanya Bhavisetti/Rutuja Bhosale bt Sai Samhitha Chamarthi/Soha Sadiq 7-5, 6-1.
