Hyderabad: SpaceX’s Crew Dragon Resilience carrying the Inspiration4 crew splashed down off the coast of Florida in the Atlantic Ocean on September 18, 2021. However, their time in space was not entirely joyful. Apparently, the astronauts faced some toilet issues during their three-day mission.
“It was very clean mission from start to finish,” SpaceX’s Benji Reed, who leads human spaceflight programmes, said during a post-flight news conference on Saturday night. “We had a couple of issues that we worked, we did work something on the Waste Management System, but that was worked (out) fine and, you know, the crew was happy and healthy.”
According to space.com, details are still scarce as to what happened with the space toilet, but the anomaly involved its suction fan, according to Reed. The suction fan is responsible for removing waste products.
While replying to a Twitter user, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk promised “definitely upgraded toilets” in future flights as they had “some challenges with it this flight”. He added that there will be a little oven for heating food and “Starlink WiFi”. This was in response to news that the crew ate cold pizza and were unable to send as many photos or videos from the flight.
