Hyderabad: Continuing the efforts to safeguard people of Telangana from Covid-19, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Sunday directed the medical and health officials to launch a special drive to vaccinate three lakh people per day.

Though the pandemic is under control in the State, the special vaccination drive is being taken up to ensure that no further problems would arise in future. He felt that as the vaccine production in the country was increasing significantly, there is a possibility that Telangana would get enough supplies to meet the demand.

At a high-level meeting with the Chief Minister at Pragathi Bhavan here, the officials informed that though all the educational institutions have been opened, there was no major impact of Covid-19. They felt that the cases were unlikely to increase further.

While nearly 2.8 crore people aged above 18 years are eligible for vaccination in the State, around 1.42 crore people have already received the first dose vaccination and another 53 lakh people have completed the second dose vaccination. Another 1.38 crore people are yet to get their first dose vaccination.

Chandrashekhar Rao asked the Sarpanches, MPTC members, ward Members, village secretaries, MPP members, ZPTC members and other public representatives, to actively participate in the special drive to vaccinate three lakh people per day. He wanted MPOs, MPDOs, DLOs, DPOs and Zilla Parishad CEOs and other staff to coordinate the entire special drive and provide full support to the Medical and Health staff to make the vaccination drive a success.

The Chief Minister lauded the Sarpanches for imposing voluntary lockdowns in villages and turning schools into isolation centres for Covid patients during the Corona pandemic. He also wanted them to become partners in the vaccination drive.

Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar was instructed to hold a video conference with the district collectors as well as other officers and review the special vaccination drive at regular intervals. He wanted them to arrange necessary facilities including food and accommodation for the vaccination staff.

The officials have been instructed to utilise public and private buildings including educational institutions, Rythu Vedikas and others for establishing the vaccination centres as well as erect tents wherever necessary.

On the occasion, Chandrashekhar Rao urged people to get vaccinated at the earliest and advised them to immediately approach the nearby hospitals in case of suffering from any Covid symptoms. He also suggested that people strictly follow the Covid protocol including wearing masks, maintain physical distance and sanitisation of hands among others.

The Medical and Health department staff were asked to be future ready to extend all support to people in case of any emergency situation due to Coronavirus and other seasonal diseases. They have been instructed to come up with an appropriate plan for establishment of oxygen plants and beds as keeping in view of the pandemic situation.

“The State government gave priority to irrigation projects and agricultural development, but now it has decided to focus more on health and education sectors,” the Chief Minister said.

The officials were directed to pay special attention to the construction of multi-super specialty hospitals, complete them quickly and make them available to the people.

The government would soon expand medical services by constructing two more towers within the NIMS hospital which has been rendering extraordinary services to the people. He said that necessary steps should be taken to ensure that government hospitals, are on par with corporate hospitals in terms of cleanliness and other services.

Officials informed that they were fully prepared with medicines and other facilities to deal with any situation.

Ministers Errabelli Dayakar Rao, S Niranjan Reddy, Telangana State Planning Board Vice Chairman B Vinod Kumar, MLA G Vithal Reddy, Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar, Special Chief Secretary for Finance K Ramakrishna Rao, CM Principal Secretary S Narsing Rao, Secretaries Smita Sabharwal, Rajasekhar Reddy, Health Secretary SAM Rizvi, Director Srinivasa Rao, Director of Medical Education Ramesh Reddy, OSD Gangadhar, TSMSIDC MD Chandrasekhar Reddy, Health University vice chancellor Karunakar Reddy, NIMS Director Manohar and others were present.
