Nalgonda: In addition to academic studies, the Government Degree College for Women of Nalgonda is also offering a month-long special certificate course to its students in sports and games.
In all, 30 players are getting skill development training in kabaddi, volleyball, kho-kho, shuttle, tennikoit and athletics in the college. The first batch of the training programme was started on February 4, 2022.
Army Physical educator Venugopal is providing training for the girl students to improve their skills in the sports and improve their physical fitness. The students, who were already showing talent in the sports have been picked up for the training to develop their skills as State and national-level sportswomen.
Speaking to Telangana Today, the Principal of the college, Dr Ghana Shyam said that the college was extending the certificate course free of cost. He said that the students of the college won prizes at district and State-level sports meets.
In-charge physical director of the college Sunkari Rajaram said students would be taught the techniques and skills in sports and games during the 30-day training programme. “We are working with a target to stand Government Women College of Nalgonda as a role model in encouraging the students towards sports and games,” he added.
A second-year student Ch Sanjana, who was getting training in Volleyball, said that she had leant a new skill useful for winning in the game in the last 10 days. She was confident that the training programme would definitely help her to achieve her dream to become the best player.
A first-year student Sudha Sharma, who was Kabaddi player, said that she had earlier participated in inter-college level games competitions. The things leaning by her as a part of the training would be helpful in her sports career, she added. Knowing about the training programme, Lions Club of Nalgonda was come forward to extend break-fast to the students of the course daily.
