Hyderabad: Gear up for some forest trekking, safari rides and jungle camp stays as the Forest Department plans to launch ‘tiger and leopard’ stay packages in Amrabad Tiger Reserve (ATR) shortly. Online booking of packages is also being arranged by the forest officials.

The two-day package includes accommodation in cottages, visit to Environment Educational Centre, Mannanur for audio-video introduction of ATR and trekking, which involves detailed explanation of flora and fauna with a special focus on birds.

The idea is to provide a good tourist experience and promote tiger conservation among visitors. The packages will commence based on the guidelines issued by the Department, says Amrabad Forest Divisional Officer Rohit Gopidi adding that package tour costs and modalities are being worked out.

Tour guides will be guiding visitors during the packages and food will be based on prior orders placed by visitors from the available menu. For launching the packages, ATR officials are developing special cottages and naming them after different birds. AC accommodation will be provided at Community Based Eco Tourism, Mannanur, ranging from two to six persons capacity rooms. Engaging tour guides, who are generally local tribal people, is mandatory as a means to provide them a source of additional livelihood, he says.

In the ‘leopard stay package’, jungle camp stays are being also planned. In each camp, two persons will be accommodated and currently, they are not permitted as per the National Tiger Conservation Authority.

Website

For the convenience of visitors, who wish to explore ATR and learn more about the tiger reserve, officials have also developed www.amrabadtigerreserve.com website. It was recently launched by Principal Chief Conservator of Forests R Shobha.

The objective behind launching the website was to let people learn more Amrabad Tiger Reserve and different activities taken up for conservation of tigers and facilitating livelihood to local tribes. This will also promote eco-tourism by providing online booking of tour packages, he informed.
