Hyderabad: Telangana Sports Minister V Srihari chaired a review meeting on Friday on the functioning of the Sports Schools and the various academies run by the Sports Authority of Telangana.
The Minister advised officials to ensure transparency and merit-based selection at the Hakimpet Sports School near Hyderabad.
Mr Srihari also suggested steps to develop the Sports Schools at Hakimpet, Karimnagar, and Adilabad, and to enhance both advanced sports training and academic progress.
He sought immediate proposals for repair works at Hakimpet, installation of CCTV cameras at all three Sports Schools in the State, and linking them to their respective schools and head offices.
The Minister called for improvements in the functioning of the Sports Academies to bring recognition and prestige to the State Government, and also urged steps to recruit the required coaches and staff.
“There should be a student monitoring system in place, and also a check on the welfare measures for them, categorizing them based on talent and performance. Those without sporting talent may be shifted to regular government residential schools,” Mr Srihari said. “Motivational classes should be conducted and yoga training should be made compulsory,” he added.
The Minister also suggested setting up a video conference hall at LB Stadium for state-wide reviews and upgrading infrastructure and monitoring systems promptly.
SATG chairman K. Shiv Sena Reddy, Deputy Directors G. Ravinder and G. Chandra Reddy, Hakimpet Sports School Special Officer, and Sports Officer Dr Ravi Shankar Pallela were among those who attended the meeting.
