Hyderabad: The State Government is set to organize the Chief Minister’s Cup this year with the aim of identifying and encouraging rural sporting talent across Telangana, according to State Sports Minister V Srihari.
Speaking at a review meeting with the District Youth and Sports Development Officers and officials of the Sports Department at GMC Balayogi Stadium in Gachibowli, the Minister said the CM Cup would be conducted from the village level upwards, creating opportunities for rural athletes to showcase their talent.
Mr Srihari emphasized that the event will not be symbolic but will be conducted in a festive atmosphere with the active involvement of public representatives, officials, and sports associations.
It was also informed that the Government will ensure inclusive participation, inviting both ruling and opposition MLAs to join hands in the event. Competitions will not be limited to Hyderabad; every district will host events in locally popular sports to generate statewide enthusiasm.
A comprehensive database of athletes will be created, helping the Government track talent and extend further encouragement. Certificates issued under the CM Cup will carry weightage in education and employment opportunities for participants, the Minister said.
“Physical Education Teachers, Physical Directors, and sports associations will be actively involved in making the event a success,” he added.
Sports Authority of Telangana Chairman Shiv Sena Reddy appealed to the officials to promote the CM Cup in a big way at the grassroots level, such as taking torch relays in all Assembly constituencies and involving athletes and sports enthusiasts.
“Five districts that excel in organizing the event will be specially recognized, while strict action will be taken against officials who show negligence in their duties,” he said.
Sports Advisor to the Government, AP Jitender Reddy, stressed the importance of involving sports associations in the conduct of the CM Cup.
The meeting was also attended by Sports Authority MD Dr Soni Baladevi, MLAs Shankar (Shadnagar), Vedma Bojju (Khanapur), Deputy Directors, stadium administrators, and coaches.
