Mahabubabad: Police along with the officials of the agriculture department arrested three persons and seized 3238 packets of substandard/spurious chilli seeds priced at Rs 13 lakh from them here on Sunday.

Disclosing the details at a press conference here on Monday, SP N Koti Reddy said that  the Mahabubabad rural police and District Seeds’ Task Force were conducting vehicle checking Eedulapusalapalli village and found cartons containing the packets of the chilli seeds.

“During the inspection, it was noticed that they were spurious chilli seeds packed in attractive polythene packets with the labels of the branded companies,” he said adding that the police had immediately taken them into custody. The arrested have been identified as Eepuri Venkataprasad of Avulavaripalem village in Krosuru mandal mandal of Guntur district, Tippireddy Sriram Reddy and Engula Nagaraju of Piduguralla in Guntur district. “They came to Telangana following the directions of their owner one Adi Reddy to sell the seeds without getting any due permissions from the Telangana government,” the SP said.

Following a complaint from the agriculture officer, the police have booked a case against the three persons.  The SP has appreciated the Seeds Task Force members   Tirupathi Reddy(Agriculture Officer),  S Ravi Kumar (CI, Rural), Ch Ramesh Babu (SI, Rural), policemen from Mahabubabad PS, ASP Yogesh Gautham, and District Agriculture Officer (DAO) Chatru Nailk for nabbing the fake seeds’ selling gang. On the occasion, Koti Reddy also warned that they would also invoke PD Act against the sellers of the fake seeds.
